Buster Brown

What would I do without my four-legged boys? I snapped a few pictures of my eldest this evening when I got home. These eyes, how can you say no to them?! He may be shedding faster than we can vacuum, but we love him all the same. Buster is a ham in front of the camera.

The Rainbow House

A synopsis of our family getaway to St. George Island! We have been going to the "forgotten" coast of Florida for 17 years, sporadically only in the last 5 years because of work and school schedules. It is pretty much the way I remember it as a teenager. Quiet, beautiful and the perfect relaxation spot. We saw dolphins swim by our house every day, ate our weight in seafood and slept in!

I recently purchased a new DSLR camera and a week at the beach was the perfect time to practice. I have a lot to learn! My tech-savvy sister gave me a basic tutorial in Photoshop, so here it goes...

Boss Oyster in Apalachicola has traditionally been our favorite restaurant, although this year, we thought their oysters were more expensive and not quite as delicious as their competitors. But, the atmosphere is great - you eat dinner with the birds on the bay. Sometimes they fight you for your entree!

So proud of my sister who just graduated from Georgia with a degree in landscape architecture...she is LEED certified too! Doesn't she look at ease?

My precious parents celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary this year...

...and Josh and I have our first right around the corner.

Love my sweet family and feel so lucky to have been able to spend an entire week with them! Can't wait until next year.

Bananas Foster

One of my all-time favorite desserts! Partly because it is delicious and partly because it reminds me of being a child. I have so many memories of my mom making this at dinner parties...she made serving dessert a show, presenting the dish aflame with Bacardi 151. I didn't flambe it for Josh and I...a little fancy for a Monday night at home!

You'll need:
3 T butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 t cinnamon
4 bananas
1 oz rum
vanilla ice cream

Combine the butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Cook over low heat for a few minutes. (I halved the recipe since there were only 2 of us.)

It should start to look like this. Your kitchen will smell fabulous!

Now add the bananas like so...

Cook them for several minutes until the bananas get a bit soft and the butter mixture begins to bubble. Add the rum. You'll want to eat out of the pan right about now.

Throw a few scoops of vanilla ice cream in a bowl and pile the bananas on top. Make sure to get plenty of that butter mixture in there. It is so good that it kind of burns your throat. Eat immediately!!

Your bowl will look like this in no time.

Go on, lick the bowl. We did!
